Leith Folk & Lore
An exhibition by Morvern Graham
Morvern Graham is an award winning illustrator, printmaker and storyteller, currently based in Edinburgh. Her solo exhibition Leith Folk & Lore was created during her time at Out of the Blueprint’s residency programme, and is now making its second public appearance here at the Western General.
Based on a set of local folktales, Leith Folk & Lore is a celebration and showcase of Leith’s vibrant history and culture from both past and present. Using bold and explorative risograph printing, the artist has brought these stories to life, bringing locals and non-locals alike together to discover something new about this proud part of Edinburgh.
Out of the Blueprint is a print studio based in Leith that specialises in riso printing, a form of mechanical screen-printing originally from Japan that uses sustainable rice inks and 100% recylced papers. Set up as a social enterprise, the studio provides an eco-printing service for the arts sector, charities and community organisations, using the profits to support their core purpose: to help young artists to realise their potential, whatever stage they’re at.
This exhibition is produced collaboratively between Out of the Blueprint and NHS Lothian Charity: Tonic Arts as part of a partnership committed to bringing vibrant and diverse artwork from young artists into healthcare environments.
