Things Beyond Measure by Lindsey Hamilton

We are delighted to present Feeling My Way & Things Beyond Measure, a new exhibition by Lindsey Hamilton, a graduate in Sculpture from Gray’s School of Art and a long-standing member of our installation team.
Lindsey has worked as an art installer for over twenty years, and for the past five years has played a vital role in bringing exhibitions to life across NHS Lothian hospitals. Her passion for the arts and dedication to enhancing hospital environments is reflected in the enthusiastic responses we receive from patients, staff, and visitors whether it’s excitement over a new display or the occasional sadness when a favourite piece is moved on.
In recent years, Lindsey has been re-engaging with her own creative practice, focusing on drawing as a means of emotional expression. We are thrilled to now showcase her work, which explores the psychological and emotional impact of vast landscapes and seascapes, rather than specific locations.
The drawings in this exhibition are deeply personal, inspired by Lindsey’s connection to Scotland’s west coast a place she considers home. Rather than attempting to capture the dramatic scenery in a literal sense, Lindsey’s work reflects her emotional response to these wild and untamed spaces. Through a limited palette and restrained mark-making, she creates a sense of calm, spaciousness, and vitality that mirrors her experience of being in nature.
These pieces are a heartfelt portrayal of longing for the west while living in the east and an amalgamation of memory, experience, and place. Most recently, Lindsey has begun experimenting with paint, seeking a balance between introducing colour and maintaining the serenity that defines her work.
We hope visitors find the same sense of tranquility and connection in Lindsey’s drawings that she feels when creating them.
