Collections: Ilana Halperin

Four striking Ilana Halperin woodblock prints from the series Geological Intimacy were purchased in 2021 and installed along the South Corridor at The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh (RIE).

The large-scale relief print editions were produced in collaboration with Dundee Contemporary Arts Print Studio and explore the artist’s longstanding fascination with geological phenomena. Halperin’s highly experimental approach to print-based processes in this project involved creating mineral sculptures and documenting their formation. The scientific exploratory aspect of this series of artworks is particularly fitting to be displayed at RIE. The hospital specialises in major acute teaching and is located on the Edinburgh BioQuarter, a leading location for groundbreaking medical research.
